SAT/ACT

All sophomores and juniors (new for 2015) take PSAT in October, paid for by the state. This is a good practice for the actual SAT and provides useful career interest feedback. It will also be used to determine eligibility for dual credit classes and to determine which students must take the Accuplacer test for college and career readiness.

College-bound Juniors SHOULD choose to take the PSAT, but must sign up and pay a few weeks before the October test. This is another practice opportunity PLUS the JUNIOR year test results are the ONLY results used to determine eligibility for National Merit Scholarship recognition.

College-bound Sophomores SHOULD choose to take the PLAN, which is the ACT practice test, and must sign up and pay a few weeks before the November test. The PLAN is ONLY for sophomores and gives helpful career feedback and practice for the ACT.

Most 4-year colleges and universities accept either the SAT or ACT, and most REQUIRE at least one of the two tests. College-bound JUNIORS should sign up for both tests for the spring or summer. Students on free/reduced lunch can request a fee waiver from their counselor or the test coordinator. Students go to the websites to register and print a ticket for test day. SAT: www.collegeboard.org. ACT: actstudent.org

Both websites offer practice for the tests. As other classes and practice opportunities become available, we will post them. The Evansville Public Library offers a practice test with results free of charge. Go to evpl.org, select the "research" folder, then the "Databases" header, then "alphabetical listing" then "Learning Express." Next select the test.
